No, most health insurance plans do not cover the cost of a facelift because it is considered an elective procedure.
A facelift is ideal if you’re concerned about loose skin, deep wrinkles, and sagging in the mid- and lower-face areas. For concerns about the upper face or neck, Dr. Sistare may recommend additional procedures, such as a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or neck lift for optimal results.
A mini facelift is less invasive and typically targets mild to moderate sagging around the cheeks and jawline, using shorter incisions and offering a quicker recovery. A full facelift, on the other hand, is more comprehensive and can address deeper tissues and a larger area, which often includes the neck, for more dramatic and longer-lasting results.
While many facelift patients are in their 40s to 60s, there’s no specific age requirement. Some patients opt for nonsurgical treatments before considering surgery, while others benefit from starting with a facelift.
People who are not ideal candidates for a facelift may have significant medical conditions that increase surgical risks, poor skin quality or unrealistic expectations about the results. Additionally, smokers or those unwilling to stop smoking before and after surgery are not good candidates, as they face higher surgical risks and poorer healing outcomes.
A “20-minute” or “1-hour” facelift are trending marketing terms used to describe quick, nonsurgical treatments that can address fine lines, wrinkles and mild skin laxity. These nonsurgical treatments can include injectables, laser or ultrasound treatments or thread lifts. However, nonsurgical “20-minute” facelifts are unable to achieve the same level and longevity of results as a surgical facelift procedure.
Most of our Palm Beach patients describe facelift recovery as mildly to moderately uncomfortable rather than painful. You may feel tightness, swelling and tenderness around the lower face and neck for the first few days, but prescription or over-the-counter pain medication usually manage discomfort well. Most of the soreness should improve within the first few days to a week after a facelift.
Most patients take 1 to 2 weeks off work and daily activities to rest and recover. Swelling and bruising may linger during this time but can be managed with makeup or supportive garments. Strenuous physical activity should be avoided for several weeks.
Facelift incisions do result in scars, but they are typically well-hidden along the hairline, around the ears and sometimes under the chin.
